- March 26, 2024- The New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) and SOAR (Student-Athlete Online Anonymous Resource) announced today that the NECBL will utilize the first of its kind SOAR Health App for all of its teams, players, and staff beginning with the upcoming 2024 season.
Launched in 2024, SOAR is a new, unique and groundbreaking mental health mobile app that provides users an anonymous peer support community and network of student-athletes at colleges all across the country. SOAR takes a creative approach to mental health support by allowing users to anonymously post, share their story, and connect with other student-athletes at other schools who can relate to their experiences and personal challenges. The purpose of the SOAR app is to help athletes overcome the stigma and gain the courage to start talking about their personal mental health challenges with their peers. SOAR’s anonymous function promotes more dialogue among users who are desperate to talk about their mental health challenges while also giving them the freedom to be more open and honest with their thoughts. SOAR is revolutionizing the way student-athletes access support, connect with peers, and find essential resources for their mental well-being.
“Our commitment to our players has always been a top priority. Through the years we have made many investments in them and now, thanks to SOAR, we will have a resource for our players to utilize in helping support their mental health,” said Sean McGrath, Commissioner of the New England Collegiate Baseball League, "playing summer ball is a unique experience as players move to New England for the summer, live with a host family, use wood bats, and compete against elite talent six nights a week. There are a lot of adjustments a player has to make and one may never know when an athlete is struggling. This anonymous resource will hopefully help any of our players struggling by allowing them to share their stories in a safe and protected space."
“I am thrilled that the NECBL will be among the first leagues in the nation to implement SOAR for their players and hopeful that the SOAR Health app will not only help those struggling this summer season but also lead to other teams and leagues using this much needed resource”, said Bobby Melley, Founder of SOAR, “SOAR's anonymous peer support community offers a unique opportunity to connect with like-minded athletes and break the stigma surrounding mental health in sports. We are excited to be working with and supporting the NECBL with our resource app this season and going forward.”
